Empty nesting is not as slow paced as one might think. Fact is, we can't even find time to fix my computer! I just can't focus on my thoughts using I.T.'s work laptop and I can't change my header pic to a diff picture, because they are stored on my pc, of course (right?). So it's eternal summer over here for now, even though the mid-west is glowing with pumpkins, corn stalks and a harvest moon.
Fash did get a leading role in the college's fall play, and she joined the dance team and the improv team and I don't know what all. She did very well on her first ever college writing assignment and she's coming home this Friday for fall break. I can't wait to see her. She's bringing her friend, Arizona, who is from Arizona and therefore cannot get home for a mere long weekend. Her name is not Arizona, but Fash calls her Arizona. She likes enchiladas and Mariachi, so I'm scrambling for recipes and bands to welcome her to Michigan. We will introduce her to apple picking and the corn maze at a local farm. But I might paint a big cactus on the wall, so she'll feel a little more at home.
I finished reading my latest book about four Lindas called Hometown Ties by Melody Carlson and am starting The Reluctant Prophet by Nancy Rue tonight. The words on the back cover are what caught my eye, "God Gets The Girl, The Girl Gets The Harley". In this fictional piece, newbie believer, forty-two year old, Allison Chamberlain, decides that God is calling her to buy a Harley and ride- wherever it takes her. In so doing she lives out the chance to present the reality of Christ to one of society's darkest corners.
Buying a Harley and becoming a biker is about the last thing on earth I'd ever do, simply because I am afraid to drive when enclosed let alone exposed. Wouldn't it be funny though if that is exactly how life unfolded for me at forty-seven? I could use some reinvention right about now and October 8 is just around the corner.

No Harley...but driving to a nearby college town sometime might be a good idea!
Sounds like life is quite exciting over there. Glad you are enjoying this empty nest time, and I know you will enjoy having the nest full for a while too!
You are too funny with the Harley...I CAN imagine you taking up something new and diving right in. Now if that involves a harley is purely up to you :)
Have fun with Fash and Arizona!

On our last vacation, we saw many retired folks sporting motorcycles, The usually traveled in groups, some looked like the typical Harley motorcycle gangs but others were just you normal kinda retired folks. It almost made me want to explore the idea, almost. If for sure made me want to stay active so that when and if God calls me to ride a motorcycle I will have a willing body!
Blessings

Get your motor running and get the breeze on your knees. the wind in your hair and head toward the horizon. It's easy and addictive. I've been hooked since I was 10.
My hubs has been mentioning the M word lately. I say no way and being married to me I don't know why he even brings it up but I think he's hoping to wear me down. I guess never say never but I'm pretty sure its never gonna happen. There are lots of motorcycling mid life moms out there though...its something I've discovered thru blogging.
Glad your daughter is loving life!
Keep enjoying your empty nest for now. Nice blog.

Sounds like Fash is settling quite happily into college life - and how great she's already bringing a friend home!
The Mr had a motorcycle for a bit and I think had dreams of us traveling on it, but I'm too chicken on the streets. He sold it and now now we do off road tav riding together. :)
If God calls you to buy a Harley be sure to ride it my way for a visit cause I just know that would be part of the plan!
I would be glad to send you a pumpkin patch or something like that for your header. :)
I have a friend I call Washington. Guess where she's from? ;) Sometimes I call her Korea. (Long story.) I've been called Texas & California. I sure hope that's not a reference to my weight.
Just wanted to stop in and say hi. I hope you get your computer fixed soon.
Love you and miss you!

Rode on a motorcycle (not a Harley) once or twice when I was in my 20's. I usually love Adrenaline racing type things. Did NOT like motorcycles. Would much rather Bungee Jump!
Facebook.....can't get the hang of it. But, as you see, I am there.
Did I miss something? You said Oct 8 is right around the corner. Actually it is today. Your birthday? We are very close in age. I was 46 in April. April Fool's Day of course (figures haha). I think you and I would have fun together.
