Hope?

It's 12 degrees outside.

I just dumped coffee grounds all over a dish towel on my kitchen counter, because I mistook the French Press for an item I'd just washed that needed to be flipped upside down to air dry.

Our emptied garbage container was left by the road and the top blew open, clearly an invitation for passersby to drop their baggies of dog poop in there.

"Trillion" paired with "dollars" doesn't evoke a lick of hope, no matter the sentence structure.

Four young adults from our community met death unexpectedly this past month in separate accidents of various sorts.

And Haiti.

But this I know-

I was made. God is Creator.

I had a beginning. God exists outside of time and space.

I need air and food and drink. God relies on nothing outside of himself.

I can be in one place at one time. God is always present everywhere.

I am limited in what I can do. God can do all things, no purpose of his can be thwarted.

I forget. God knows all things past, present and future.

I'm not always sure what I will do. God does what we could never do.

God is holy. Above us. Beyond us. But with us. With us.

"What is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?" (Psalm 8:4)

This is the God I serve. The one I have no hold on and the One who holds me in the palm of his hand. This is the God who loves me. And this is the God who loves you.

Therein lies hope.

Hope.

I'm so sorry for the loss of some of your church family. Life is sometimes hard. Thinking of you! I've missed you!

Hi Heidi - I've missed you here, but you've made up for your absence with this great post!

The young folks who died were not part of our church family, but members of our community at large. I did not know them personally, but had friends who did. It is just part of what I've been thinking about- how not everything in life inspires fun and laughter. And that knowing what I believe and why is important. That's what fueled this post.

I was on for prayer at the recent faculty mtg. Stoep had asked me before the accident. I got through OK and ended with a hymn to honor the lives of D and E. Too much loss...

Thanks for writing again! I have missed you too. Hugs, M

It is always difficult when young people die. My youngest sister was tragically killed at age 17. It is hard. GOD saw me through and continues to do so to this day.
Hugs,

Well said!

I think if we are honest with our selves we all have moments of confusion and frustration and down right grief over the state of the world. When horrible sad thing happen we just shake our heads and wonder why?

You are so right refocusing our thoughts on how great, powerful and awesome our God is never fails to redirect out thoughts.

Great post my friend!

Blessings on this Friday.

Beautiful reminder of who we are and WHO GOD IS!

I'd love to follow through on your suggestion for getting cool but unfortunately we have neither a pool nor a bathtub in which to immerse a body (only showers in most houses here). *sigh* If the water coming out of the faucet wasn't so tepid, I'd be tempted to just have the hubby hose me down :-)

Yes. Even in this crazy, messed up world, we can have hope. Because of HIM.

It sounds like you have been spending time with your Maker and pondering the deeper stuff. That's a very good place to be. He is our Hope, our Rock, our All in All, the Most High God who is always in control.

Love you my friend!

Hope indeed. For without his promise, there is no hope.
