High Tech Heidi

Not getting much blogging done what with my new Verizon cell phone beeping me text messages from all corners of the nation. When I first started this blog, almost 50 posts ago, I had never uploaded a picture or downloaded one from a camera. In fact, I did not even own a camera and hadn't owned one since the days of film. Remember film? We used to take it in to the store and put it in a plastic canister and drop it down the hole, where it would turn into a stack of 24 glossy images on paper that we would go pick up, pay for, look at, then throw in a decorative box next to the sofa. Before the blog, my dashboard was in my car, gadgets were in a drawer in the kitchen, a new post was something a farmer would use in a fencing project and followers were found in the Bible. Look at me now! I have pictures on my blog, some taken with my Nikon Coolpix, transferred into the computer by moi using a plastic slider thingy called a card reader and others borrowed from Google. Gadgets are tools I use to add bling to my blog and followers are friends I've never met, who leave warm fuzzy comments on words created by going to my dashboard and clicking on "new post". AND, as of Saturday, I have the cell phone you saw above with unlimited text messaging. So, Pilgrim and Fash send me these brief, grammatically incorrect, spelling error laden clips of what they're up to and I send perfect and complete sentences back to them, which takes me about a quarter of an hour per reply. Yes, after much ado about too many things, Fashionista got the flip out keyboard for lightening speed texting with both thumbs and mom ended up with the "free" phone, which can require up to 4 clicks on one number pad to retrieve the desired letter for forming a single word. But hey! I'm doing it. Texting is good. I like it.

The phone we bought for Outside the Box is being shipped to him out east. It is the rugged version Verizon. If he calls me, but happens to drop it 500 feet from a cliff and it collides with a slab of granite, then slides into the lake below, as long as he just rappels down there and fishes it out right away, we will not lose connection and can just continue our conversation like nothing happened. This will be a good phone for him. This one was the deal of the day, because I.T. actually found it for free, brand new, on some Verizon website. That search only took five hours.

Here is what was sacrificed tonight in exchange for finding out that Fash found a frog at my sister's pond that had just metamorphosed from the tadpole stage.

Dinner.
Not the first time we've eaten PB&J's because of technology.

Yikes for supper!! (No Cooking Network for you!) I love the phone. I'm a rotten text messagers...and I have to threaten my students that papers with text language get no credit. I see big changes ahead for our English language because of text and chat language. I'm not sure how I feel about that!

my kids laugh at the way i text. i don't do it often, but i know jared is far more likely to look at a text message than to listen to a voice mail. a couple mos ago i heard someone make the following statement, which pretty much sums up my own thoughts on the matter: "i don't *want* to learn how to text. if i learn how to do it, then i will *have* to do it." makes sense to me. as long as my kids see me as an inept texter, they won't expect me to text them.

as for technology... isn't it amazing what is becoming obsolete already? our kids don't email or buy cds...

LOL; yes I remember film and taking it in to be developed and negatives :)

LOL too; I got the free phone and son got the keyboard cool one for texting, like you, it still takes me a long time to text, but I'm trying to learn ways to be quicker

if kids' phones are costly, might consider getting insurance for them if you didn't already. Its worth the extra $5.00 or so monthly, son lost his cell phone and we had to pay a $50 deductible, but he got a brand new phone sent overnight which was nice.

I learned how to put music on my journal today; that was an adventure I hadn't undertaken before :)

enjoy your new phone

I remember film! In fact I found a canister the other day. I need to take that in, lol.

I made my header by adding stuff to a photo I took using a paint program. It is super simple but I don't have a fancy blog design.

Wow! I thought you had been into hi-tech for a long time. I'm 4 posts behind you on my blog. I just started texting a few months ago. I text in complete words and sentences, too. I thought I was the only one. LOL! My daughter likes to tell anyone who will listen that we are still on dial-up internet and we don't have cable T.V....but all is not lost, we have an answering machine on our house wall phone. I told her to be grateful that we have moved up from the 2 cans on a string telephone. LOL! Yep! We are beginning to break into high technology.

So far we have only sprung for a texting plan for my oldest son. The rest of us have to call people if we want to tell them something! Have fun with the new phones!

Loved this post and lol at followers were something in the Bible! I've thought the same thing and feel kind of weird calling them "followers." I don't think my kids will ever use a typewriter or a rotary phone, or maybe even a phonebook. It's crazy...
Thank you for posting my button~I'm honored! :)

You make me laugh. I hope Outside the Box isn't the type to TEST the durability of the phone. LOL!
