Friday's Fave Five

Susanne at Living to Tell the Story hosts Friday's Fave Five. Here are my favorite moments from the week. What are yours? Join in on your blog or tell us in a comment here.

Monday was my last day at the bookstore. It was a fun day helping customers select books and listening to a presentation from a local sales rep on how to use a certain writing curriculum called Institute for Excellence in Writing- a wonderful product. Then dinner with friends at a restaurant where I have never eaten before- Olive's. The food was delicious and the company grand!
My sisters, nieces and nephews visited Fash and I on Tuesday. The sun was bright, the pool water warm and the company delightful.

Three sisters checking out the periodic table, I remember Sn is tin because sin rhymes with tin and Pb for lead- public lead-Cu, cute copper- hey, had to come up with some way of memorizing the ones that didn't seem as logical waay back in the day. Now the illogical ones are the ones I remember best. And boy, is it ever a good thing to know. In case I'm ever on a game show like Smarter Than a Fifth Grader.

Wednesday, we dropped Fash off at the movies with her friend, then decided to go see one ourselves. Not our typical mid-week gig. We chose The Time Traveler's Wife. I like Rachel McAdams, the star of The Notebook, one of my favorite movies. But Traveler didn't draw me in. Too fictional. Not believable. I couldn't connect with the disappearing guy and felt a shock of horror every time he showed up in a different time zone naked- talk about my worst nightmare! I've heard if you read the book, you like the movie better. I didn't read it. Some people must have enjoyed this movie, because I guess it might be coming to ABC as a mini-series. What I liked best about Wednesday was the company- I was with I.T.- the star of my show.

Thursday I worked on my "project" organizing books for Fash's fall studies. I think we've got it figured out now. American Lit., Psychology, World Geography, Art, Consumer Math, Vocabulary w/Writing Studies and a College Prep study course. She tried out for the musical Annie and finds out today if she got a part and she's volunteering three days/week at a local retirement villa, leading arts and crafts, doing manicures and playing card games with the residents there. She is also affiliated with a drama team called Breakdown that performs skits, promoting positive messages about making wise decisions, for local school assemblies. Throw in babysitting and her social calendar and I think she's good for another fabulous year- her senior year! Wow! Fash is for sure one of my all time favorites.

This sign at the local retirement villa where Fash volunteers says it all. I.T. and I are looking forward to dinner with longtime friends and I hear one of them may have a "project" for me. Another "project". Okay. I'm ready. I can always add it to my list where I can try to stare it done. No really, I'm warming up to projects and I'm going to get this one from yesterday done today.

What a great list. That pool looks very inviting!

Love the pic of you guys going over the periodic timetable. Too funny. I would so never make that show. LOL.

I always thought I would love to work at a bookstore. So glad your last day was made special with the nice lunch.

I'm one of the few it seems, but I did not enjoy The Time Traveller's Wife book at all so I doubt if I'll be going to see the movie.

That Fash sure stays busy. How does she do it? Is that sign because some of them forget? I need one of those in my office. :)

IEW! I am using that writing course in my new position, teaching homeschoolers to write! It's a great program!

Have a good weekend, choosing your curriculum and books.

I used to work in a lab when I was a young girl, and I remember challenging myself to recognize and name all the elements in that timetable! As a matter of fact, I googled it and I'm going to study it over coffee first thing in the morning! No? Seriously!!!

I seriously hope when I get old, I will still be able to do the elements, and not need a sign telling me it's Friday!
Loved this FF. You had a great week. Hugs. So did I. Enjoy your weekend!

Heidi,
My daughter and grandson live in OH! I know how you feel. The simple living blog is actually one that dd is developing. I'm a contributor on it. My #2 son is moving to Palo Alto in two weeks. None of my four children are local to us :( The closest ones will be in San Diego.

I loved you taking us through your wonderful times and how many amazing things we got to see through your pictures. Missing pools since we live in the desert it is a much needed item but we are in the process of deciding on whether it's time to make a move or not.

Love and Hugs ~ Kat

what? you used the photo that i took and therefore was not in? i feel so slighted. but i know, then you would have felt like you had to link to my blog, and i haven't posted for over a week, and you would have felt embarrassed for me or something...

funny story on the periodic table-- i had a crush my jr/sr year on a kid whose initials were pb, so my friends & i referred to him in code as "lead". my initials were br- remember that. after "lead" finally asked me out at the end of our sr year, one of my (guy) friends remarked that he couldn't wait to see little lead bromide! :-)

hope fash gets a great part!!! i'm ok with ben having bowed out of auditions at the last minute-- life is busy enough, and one of the worship people at church is trying to work with him on music w/the idea of eventually convincing him to join worship team-- so we're good.

Thanks for taking me through your last week of work. I hope you are not sad as I know how much you loved working there. But the future is full of surprises. I also would love to just hang out in your backyard at the pool with the kids! We have a spa that we drained since it has been 105f. No sense in going in a hot spa!

LOL...

Take care!

Yes that pool does look inviting. And the Friday sign is great. I teach at our local HS and they always post a sign to remind us what day it is ( A,B,C etc) in the main hallway everyday. I am lost if I don't see that sign. Ha Ha!
Love the fun pictures you girls checking out the periodic table. :) I still remember a few also.

Wow, what a list! I've always wanted to work in a bookstore. I wonder if they will become a thing of the past soon. I hope not.

Your girl Fash sounds like a lovely, lovely daughter. You are so proud, I know, and with good reason, from an objective source!

I think I would feel the same way about the move. Instead, I'm thinking about taking in Julie and Julia.
