Julie and Julia- Two Thumbs Up

I'm not even going to cruise around and read the blogs before I post this, because I know everyone who had a date night tonight probably saw this movie. So, we will be writing the same post, but that's okay.

Meryl, the timeless classic, was wonderful, as usual and Amy Adams' lines sounded very familiar to me- blogger that she became. It was a clean movie except when Julie dropped a raw chicken spilling stuffing on her kitchen floor and when Stanley Tucci seemed to break character for one quick, random blurt of the "F" word.

The fact that the movie intertwines true stories about two different women, both searching for something meaningful and interesting to do, peaked my interest from the start. As these storylines unfold, the movie works beautifully to the end. Blogging and French cooking and blogging about French cooking and having the whole thing turn into a book and a movie deal- well, that would make me jump up and down on my front porch.

All the way home, I thought about food. When I got home I had to clean up my kitchen from dinner; we left in a flurry to get to the movie on time, as I.T. was rushing home from helping a friend roof his house, quickly showering... I thought about food the whole time I was doing the dishes. When I was done washing the last pan, I couldn't help but mix up some almond butter made with flax seed oil and calcium enriched chocolate syrup- stir in some crushed peanuts and sliced banana, dollop a tablespoon of fat free whipped cream on top and enjoy my signature ice creamless banana split. And I did that with a French accent. Then I just had to come down here and blog all about it.

Go see the movie and let me know what you think.

Heidi,

I've asked Steve to go along with me, even though he cringed when I asked him to see this movie, but I honestly believe it will be one of those hidden gems that when you walk out, you look at each other and simply say, wasn't that a really good movie?

I will let you know how it goes. Perhaps I can convince him to go when the girls are at skating practice.

I am SO hoping the movie is on DVD by the time my daughter comes to visit in December so she can bring it with her and I can watch it!!!!!!! She saw it last weekend and said it was fabulous.

I read the book Julie and Julie a few years ago and really enjoyed it. The idea of a movie just thrills me to pieces.

Great review too -- especially like the bit about it being a clean movie except... :-)

You are right! Meryl Streep did an amazing job portraying Julia! And I too left the theatre inspired to cook!!!

LOVED it!! We were both at the same movie last night. I'm thinking we both thought the same. I had already posted on it before I read your post. (Does it ever scare you how similar we are??!!)

I saw it last night. I laughed so hard, I cried. I absolutely loved it. Made me want to start a cooking blog ... or not.

My small group went to see this on Thursday evening. I thought it was very good. I can not remember ever seeing an actress ever portray anyone as well as Meryl Streep did Julia. There were times during the movie that i actually forgot it was Meryl she was so spot on in her portrayal of Julia Childs!

I am having a giveaway on my bog come on over and check it out!

We all really enjoyed it.

I thought this looked like a good movie. I RARELY go to the movies but would go today if it made me come home and want to cook. Unfortunately, cooking is DEFINITELY on my list of things I don't do well. I would rather clean the bathroom than cook a meal.

Maybe I could start a cooking-cleaning co-op. haha.

I'm trying to get back into blogging. My back is doing better but it still bothers me to sit very long at the computer.

Have a great day.

Oh yeah, I'm glad to see you went to my nieces blog and made it a favorite. She's in elementary school and is excited to have followers. I told her you were "safe". :)

hhhmmmm, usually it says your comment will post after approval. This time it didn't say anything. I'm not going to fall into THAT trap and try to write the same comment 3 times in a row....again.
haha

MERYL SHOULD GET AN AWARD FOR THIS ONE...she certainly captured julia.
It was a good chickflick, as they say
it slowed a few times but overall it was so refreshing to NOT BE offended by language and content...well done, ladies!!

I'm glad you told me about this movie. I think I would enjoy seeing it. I have really liked Meryl Streep ever since she gave the address at my graduation. She is the woman of 1000 faces.
